Grading Policy
Your grade is configured using the following breakdown:
Homework will consist of reading and short writing assignments. It is absolutely essential that students complete homework assignments completely and consistently. See grading rubric for information on homework grading.
Minor Assessments can be announced or unannounced. They may be open book or not, depending upon what we are reading and the skill I am trying to assess. Shared Inquiry Discussions are announced graded discussions that will require you to demonstrate an ability to think and speak critically.
Major Assignments can occur at any time during a unit of study. They will span a variety of genres and may be individual or group assessments depending upon the task. So expect the unexpected and be prepared to be evaluated in a variety of ways. It is very important to pay attention to instructions and ask questions when you have them.
Your class participation grade will reflect your ability to volunteer intelligent answers, respond when called upon, pay attention in class, participate without reservation in class activities, behave appropriately, and arrive punctually to class. See the attached rubric for information on class participation grading.
* NOTE: Percentages can be changed at any point. In the past percentages have been changed because of the number of assignments being unbalanced due to weather, testing, or other reasons.
Extra Credit Assignments
There will be plenty of opportunities during each semester. Be ready at any time. Requests for extra credit must come at a moment that does not hinder class time. Extra credit can be refused at any point. Laziness will not be rewarded.
